Renewable Energy Platform Mergers
MN8 Energy Has Acquired Greenbacker for $375 Million
Adam Harrie — July 24, 2026MN8 Energy agreed to acquire Greenbacker Renewable Energy in a cash-and-equity transaction valued at up to $375 million, creating one of the three largest clean power platforms in the U.S. The combined company will have more than 6 GW of operating and under-construction capacity across 33 states, while adding Greenbacker's Midwest and Northeast presence to MN8's footprint and expanding its technology mix to include wind alongside solar, storage and distributed generation assets.
Approximately 94% of the combined platform's capacity is under contract, with a weighted-average solar power purchase agreement tenor of roughly 14 years. The companies will also have a pro forma development pipeline of approximately 9.3 GW, supporting continued expansion across multiple clean energy technologies and regional markets.
MN8 Energy shows how consolidation among renewable energy platforms can create the scale, geographic reach and contracted asset base needed to serve large customers seeking reliable clean power.
