Solar-Powered Pharmaceutical Plants

Solar-powered pharmaceutical plants are helping manufacturers reduce their reliance on purchased electricity while managing long-term energy costs. Yuyu Pharma has expanded solar generation at its manufacturing facility in Korea with a new 869-kW system, bringing total on-site capacity to approximately 1 MW. Combined with installations completed in 2020 and 2021, the systems are expected to provide more than 30% of the facility's electricity.

The newest system is projected to generate at least 1.2 million kWh annually and approximately 30.96 million kWh over 25 years. Beyond increasing the use of renewable electricity, the project gives Yuyu Pharma greater control over a portion of its energy supply. The company expects the investment to pay for itself in roughly three years. For pharmaceutical manufacturers, similar on-site solar projects could offer a practical way to lower operating expenses, strengthen facility resilience and modernize energy-intensive production infrastructure.
