Grid-Stabilizing Power Plants
GE Vernova and Eneva celebrated the start of commercial operations at the Azulão I thermal power plant in Silves, Brazil, which is contracted to provide 295 MW of capacity to Brazil's National Interconnected System for 15 years. The plant uses GE Vernova's high-performance 7HA.02 gas turbine to deliver rapid load-following capabilities designed to help balance the grid as Brazil expands non-dispatchable renewables such as wind and solar.
Integrating the facility required a custom-engineered Sub-Synchronous Resonance blocking filter to ensure reliable operation along the Tucuruí-Macapá-Manaus transmission corridor, one of the world's longest and most technically challenging at approximately 1,850 km.
GE Vernova also secured a 15-year service agreement to support long-term reliability, with Brazil's Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan projecting that renewables will account for more than 85% of electricity generation by 2035.
