Sodium-Ion Grid Storage

Peak Energy Raises $108 Million led by General Motors Venture

Peak Energy closed a $108 million Series B led by General Motors Ventures, with participation from Maverick Silicon, Eclipse, and LG Technology Ventures, to scale domestic manufacturing of its passively cooled sodium-ion energy storage systems. The funding is meant to support more than $1 billion in existing customer orders and the launch of a data center market.

Peak states that its simpler design removes cooling systems and planned maintenance, cutting the cost of energy by up to 20%, while using no water and eliminating leading causes of battery fires. Its 4 GWh Sacramento factory is set to start production in the first quarter of 2027.

As AI data centers struggle to secure reliable power, Peak Energy signals how quiet, water-free sodium-ion storage could give operators capacity while also easing community concerns about noise and safety.
