Clean Hydrogen Investment Milestones

Global Hydrogen Capacity Has Surpassed $130B in Commitments

The Hydrogen Council's Global Hydrogen Compass 2026 report found that committed clean hydrogen investment has surpassed $130 billion, representing 6.9 Mtpa of capacity across more than 570 projects worldwide, with 90% already under construction or operational.

China remains the largest market, accounting for more than half of global committed renewable hydrogen capacity, while the United States leads in low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia deployment, with roughly 75% of global committed capacity. The report found that of the 11 Mtpa of potential 2030 clean hydrogen demand that existing policies could unlock, only about 6 Mtpa is currently firmed by enacted policy, leaving governments needing to act on the remaining gap.

The report signals that the industry's next bottleneck lies less in technology readiness and more in whether governments follow through on policy commitments.
