Hydrogen Value Chain Standards
ANSI Debuts the Hydrogen Standards Coordination Initiative
Kalin Ned — February 16, 2026The American National Standards Institute (or ANSI, for short) launched its Hydrogen Standards Coordination Initiative, a program designed to advance the development and awareness of safety and technical standards across the entire hydrogen value chain — from production and storage to transportation and carbon capture infrastructure.
Phasde I of the Hydrogen Standards Coordination Initiative focuses on building a comprehensive database of existing hydrogen-related standards and related activities, compiled through stakeholder input via a public request for information. Phase II, which is planned for spring 2026, will involve a technical workshop addressing pre-standardization research, gaps in current standards, and regulatory considerations. Phase I and Phase II will culminate in an executive report with recommendations for advancing hydrogen standardization.
The Hydrogen Standards Coordination Initiative aims to support the safe, reliable, and efficient scaling of hydrogen technologies.
