Direct Lithium Extraction Projects

NESR and Aramco Develop Saudi Arabia's First Lithium Project

National Energy Services Reunited (NESR) and Aramco are advancing direct lithium extraction projects through a new agreement to establish Saudi Arabia’s first lithium production facility. The Aramco 2027 Lithium Demonstration Project aims to produce 2,000 tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate annually, with operations expected to begin in late 2027.

The project will use NESR’s LiThara platform, which combines brine pre-treatment, lithium extraction and carbonation within a modular processing system. This integrated approach is designed to simplify deployment, support scalable production and maintain competitive operating costs.

For NESR, the agreement represents an opportunity to expand its environmental technology business beyond traditional oilfield services. The contract could reach approximately $200 million over five years. For Aramco, the collaboration creates an opportunity to apply its subsurface expertise to lithium production, supporting domestic battery material supply chains and growing demand for energy storage technologies.
