Grid-Enhancing Distribution Automations

Switched Source Raises $17 Million to Scale Its Phase-EQ

Switched Sources has raised more than $17 million, led by Cubit Capital, with participation from ABB, Emerald Technology Ventures, and Southwire, to scale production of its Phase-EQ. This device dynamically balances power across three phases of distribution circuits. The funding will expand manufacturing at its Chicago headquarters and support a growing pipeline of utility deployments across North America.

Each unit can bring 100 to 200 additional homes online without new infrastructure, with field data showing 10% to 25% more capacity. Deployment takes about 14 to 20 weeks, compared with traditional upgrades, and a $99 million Department of Energy project will use Phase-EQ units for storm restoration.

Switched Source signals how automated power balancing could unlock capacity in existing lines faster than traditional upgrades.
