Multi-Decade Nuclear Power Agreements

Amazon Locks In 20 Years of Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power

Amazon signed a 20-year agreement with Constellation Energy to secure 690 megawatts of power from the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center in Maryland, supporting more than $3 billion in infrastructure investment, including a roughly 190-megawatt plant expansion expected to come online between 2030 and 2032. The companies also entered a retail electricity supply agreement covering Amazon operations across the 13-state PJM market.

The long-term commitment gives Constellation greater revenue certainty as it seeks to extend Calvert Cliffs' operating licenses for another 20 years, building on Amazon's broader nuclear push, which includes a $500 million investment in X-energy and a small modular reactor agreement in Washington state.

As AI and data center growth drive surging electricity demand, Amazon's expanded nuclear commitment signals that tech companies are increasingly locking in decades-long power agreements to secure reliable, carbon-free generation rather than relying solely on shorter-term contracts.
