Industrial Decarbonization Funds
The Climate Investment Funds endorsed $250 million in catalytic funding to accelerate Türkiye's industrial decarbonization push. The plan is expected to mobilize $2.8 billion in total, combining $1.93 billion from multilateral development bank partners and $870 million from private sources. The investment is projected to reduce or avoid 39 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent annually by 2035, supporting Türkiye's 2053 net-zero goal through green hydrogen, carbon capture, energy efficiency, and renewable electricity projects.
Coordinated through the Türkiye Industrial Decarbonization Investment Platform, the plan aims to improve access to green finance for roughly 378 businesses by 2035, prioritizing small and medium-sized enterprises and women-led businesses.
As developing economies seek capital to decarbonize heavy industry, this funding signals that concessional finance can absorb early-stage investment risk that private markets won't yet price, unlocking far larger private capital flows toward industrial emissions reduction.
