Corporate Habitat Restoration Funds

Publix committed $1 million to its partnership with The Nature Conservancy, funding two restoration projects in Florida and South Carolina, both expected to be completed by the end of 2027. The donation supports The Nature Conservancy's "Runoff to Resilience" pilot, which retrofits stormwater ponds with smart technology to improve water quality and reduce nutrient pollution reaching the Indian River Lagoon, home to more than 4,300 species, including endangered manatees.

The controlled burns reduce competing vegetation, allowing more rainfall to reach groundwater sources and improving both forest health and wildlife habitat. Publix's funding demonstrates how targeted regional projects—such as smart stormwater management and prescribed forest burns—can effectively address specific, measurable ecological threats, rather than implementing broad, less-focused sustainability initiatives.
