Spanish Solar Plant Expansions
Naturgy Announced 300MW of New Solar Capacity Coming to Spain
Colin Smith — April 16, 2026Naturgy has announced the addition of 300 MW of new solar capacity in Andalusia through the commissioning of six photovoltaic plants. The projects include four 50 MW facilities located in Carmona and Alcalá de Guadaíra in the province of Seville, along with the Andújar I and Andújar III plants in Jaén, which together contribute 100 MW. The company stated that the installations represent a total investment exceeding 260 million euros and are designed to be compatible with future battery storage integration. The new capacity increases Naturgy’s operational renewable portfolio in Andalusia to more than 600 MW and is expected to supply electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of over 350,000 households while avoiding approximately 600,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
Naturgy indicated that the expansion aligns with its broader strategy to strengthen its renewable energy presence across Spain. The Seville based plants collectively have a peak capacity of more than 205 MW and are projected to generate over 430 GWh annually. The company is also developing more than 20 additional renewable projects in the region, many of which include plans for co located storage systems to enhance operational flexibility. The commissioning of the six new plants reinforces Naturgy’s position as a major contributor to Andalusia’s clean energy supply and supports ongoing national efforts to increase renewable generation capacity.
