Repurposed Landfill Solar Projects
PowerBank Corporation is advancing repurposed landfill solar projects with its 3.26 MW Camillus installation in New York, which has received approval to begin operations. Developed on a former landfill, the facility demonstrates how underused properties can support renewable electricity generation while expanding solar access for surrounding communities.
The project, valued at $7.3 million, was constructed for Solar Advocate Development LLC. Its community solar model allows renters and homeowners to participate without installing personal solar equipment. Subscribers receive electricity bill credits corresponding to their portion of the energy produced. Solar Simplified manages enrollment and subscription services.
For renewable energy developers, this approach creates opportunities to transform challenging properties into productive energy assets. The project also strengthens PowerBank's development portfolio, which includes more than 100 MW of completed installations and a pipeline approaching 1 GW across North America.
