International CCUS Partnerships

International CCUS partnerships are supporting wider carbon capture deployment as Sinopec joins organizations in China and Kazakhstan to launch the Initiative for Cooperation on Low-Carbon Energy Development. Announced at the 2026 International CCUS Technology Conference, the initiative will strengthen collaboration around carbon capture technologies, technical standards, professional expertise, and international deployment. Sinopec already operates an integrated CCUS demonstration project capable of handling one million metric tons annually and has developed a 100-kilometer dense-phase CO2 pipeline. Greater international coordination could help companies share engineering knowledge and develop common approaches for scaling complex CCUS infrastructure. Sinopec is also studying a 10-million-metric-ton open-access CCUS cluster with Shell, BASF, and China Baowu. Connecting these large-scale projects with international research and standards could support broader commercialization while giving participating companies opportunities to develop shared infrastructure, reduce deployment barriers, and expand CCUS capabilities across additional markets.
