Reservoir Solar Developments

Masdar and Partners Break Ground on a 200 MW Floating Solar Project

Masdar, Citaglobal and TIZA Global marked the start of construction of the 200 MW Chereh Dam Floating Solar Project in Pahang, Malaysia, with a groundbreaking ceremony. The plant is expected to begin operations in 2028 and generate clean electricity for the equivalent of 100,000 homes.

The consortium reached financial close on Oct. 27, raising about 580 million MYR from three international lenders. The plant will sell electricity to Tenaga Nasional Berhad under a 21-year power purchase agreement, after the consortium's bid offered the lowest tariff in the floating solar category of Malaysia's Large Scale Solar Cycle 5+ program. The project will create around 1,500 jobs.

By using an existing reservoir, the project signals how floating solar can add renewable capacity while reducing the need for land-based sites.
