Green Hydrogen Financing
Climate Fund Managers secured approval for $140 million in catalytic financing from the Green Climate Fund for Climate Investor Three, its blended finance facility for industrial decarbonization. The money will support green hydrogen production in South Africa and Namibia, along with green ammonia and green methanol and the decarbonization of hard-to-abate industries.
Of the total, $84 million goes to South Africa's SA-H2 Fund and $56 million to Namibia's SDG Namibia One, through the Southern African Industrial Decarbonisation Facility, the fund's first platform for decarbonizing African industrial value chains. Public and private capital combine to reduce risk and bring in institutional investors.
As green hydrogen projects seek early capital, this approval signals how catalytic funding can help build integrated industrial value chains across Southern Africa.
