Large-Scale Wind Projects

Large-scale wind projects are advancing in Southeastern Europe as the first 131.25 MW phase of North Macedonia’s Štip Wind Farm reaches financial close. Envision Energy will supply 21 EN182-6.25 MW turbines featuring 120-meter hub heights, making them among the largest onshore wind turbines deployed in Europe. Across three planned phases, the project could reach 396 MW and more than quadruple North Macedonia’s installed wind capacity.

For the country, the project adds substantial renewable generation as its energy system shifts away from coal-fired power. Its private offtake structure also demonstrates how long-term corporate electricity agreements can support utility-scale renewable projects without relying entirely on public procurement. Financing from institutions including the EBRD, IFC, and Erste further supports the project’s commercial viability. For Envision, Štip strengthens its European presence and provides a large-scale reference project for its onshore wind technology.
