Industry Renewable Power Deals
Cargill is expanding its renewable electricity portfolio in the United States through a 12.6-year virtual power purchase agreement for 87 megawatts of wind power from the Sweetland Wind project in South Dakota. The agreement is expected to generate about 392,000 megawatt-hours annually, supporting roughly 162,000 metric tons of CO₂-equivalent emissions reductions per year.
It joins the 85-megawatt CHoctaw Fields Solar project in Oklahoma, which began operations in August 2026 and is projected to reduce about 86,000 metric tons annually. Both projects are within the Southwest Power Pool, near Cargill's large beef, sweetener, and feed facilities, and together they support about 3.3 million metric tons of emissions reductions over their terms.
As customers push to cut supply chain emissions, these agreements signal how food producers can tie regional renewable sourcing directly to the products they supply.
