Integrated Carbon Mitigation Frameworks

Carbon Direct recently introduced a new climate strategy framework designed to help corporations combine superpollutant mitigation with durable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) to strengthen climate action. The report proposes an “annual warming matching” approach, which measures the real atmospheric warming effects of climate interventions over time instead of relying solely on traditional emissions accounting metrics. By pairing short-term solutions such as methane reduction, landfill gas capture, and hydrofluorocarbon replacement with long-term carbon removal strategies, the framework allows companies to address climate change across different timescales. This approach highlights how reducing short-lived climate pollutants can deliver immediate cooling benefits, while carbon dioxide removal provides sustained climate impact over decades. By integrating both strategies into corporate climate plans, Carbon Direct’s framework offers organizations a more comprehensive pathway for reducing warming while improving transparency and credibility in corporate climate commitments.
